In loving memory of Alan Robert Smith “BOB” who sadly passed away on 22nd March 2018
SMITH Alan Robert BOB
Originally from Christchurch but best known from Akaroa New Zealand and late of Carindale.
Bob passed away peacefully in the Redlands Hospital on Thursday 22nd March 2018 at the tender age of 88 years
Bob leaves behind the love of his life and soulmate Christina and loving children Robyn, Kay, Marc, Don, Yvonne, Ritchie, and their partners, Julie, Chris, and extended family.
Bob or Grandad as he was better known will also be sadly missed by his doting grandchildren (Nick, Allan, Corey, Megan, Bianca, Brendon, Taryn, Kayla, Jessica, Bryony, Keeley, Maeve, Axl, Monty) and Great Grandchildren (Madison, Oliver, Amelia) each of whom remember him for his constant teasing, tickles and the way he had of making each of them know that they were special to him
Bob will be remembered for his tireless work that he put in at the local bowls club both in Brisbane and Akaroa. The Mt Pleasant Yacht Club, Akaroa Historical society, Akaroa Film society, and various other clubs and societies.
But will be remembered most for his exemplary service in the Akaroa Volunteer Fire Brigade.
At this time Bobs family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Support staff of the Redlands Hospital for the loving care and attention that they afforded Bob and his family that made his final days as peaceful as possible.
In honour of Bobs devotion to the sea and yachts his family would like the Pilots Psalm quoted.
The Lord is my pilot, I shall not drift.
He guides me across the dark waters.
He steers me in deep channels.
He keeps my log.
He pilots me by the star of holiness for His names sake.
Yea, though I sail mid the thunder, and tempest of life,
I will dread no danger for He is near me.
His love and care shelter me.
He prepares a harbour before me in the homeland of eternity.
He anoints the waves with oil, my ship rides calmly.
Surely sunlight and starlight shall favour me on my voyage and I will rest in the port of my Lord forever.
Bobs family and friends are warmly invited to attend his celebration of life service that will be held in the chapel of the Hemmant Crematorium within the grounds of the Hemmant Cemetery. Hemmant and Tingalpa Road, Hemmant on Wednesday 28th March commencing at 11.00am
