Messages from Friends & Family

Sorry to hear the passing of your father. We went through many childhood/teenage things together and now we share the loss of both parents in common. Personally, I found dad’s passing to be a significant moment in my life journey. Grieving is complicated and healing of wounds is a process, but know that my heart breaks for each of you. God is close to the broken hearted. Love and blessings Kathy

Aubrey was a gracious and attentive husband to Jillian Downes, since their marriage in 1998. Saved from a life of loneliness in their senior years, (both lost their respective spouses years before) they enjoyed life, love and companionship for more than 15 years! Aside from travel, they shared their time with family and friends in Brisbane and Sydney. For Melani, Jerome and their families, Aubrey was a precious Male Elder and “Pa” to our young children; other elders had since passed away many years before. Wonderful to have him as a part of our lives: a thoughtful listener, wise counsellor and enthusiastic companion in our celebrations. He was often there at our family celebrations and he took a keen interest in our stories and activities. Also we have had the pleasure to know some of the children and their families (Stephanie, Geraldine, Gabrielle, Cecily, Bernard and Thomas) from the life he shared with his wife Marguerite.

My husband Phil and I stayed with Aubrey in the family home some years ago when we holidayed in Queensland. I remember he shouted us to a great meal of fish and chips at his favourite local cafe on the waterfront at Sandgate. The cafe was very popular but we managed to get a table and we enjoyed the sea view in the falling dusk, with lights twinkling on the peninsula in the distance. It was really lovely.
