Thomas David Thaggard “TOM”
Tom passed away peacefully on Monday, 27 July 2026, aged 80 years.
Tom was the beloved husband of the late Julia Thaggard (née Murphy), with whom he shared 39 years of marriage. Together they built a life in Australia, raised their family, and created many lasting memories over almost four decades.
He is the father of Didi-Gizelle McKenna and Erin Thaggard, and grandfather to Eli Thaggard, Keenan McKenna and Kaiden McKenna.
He is survived by his wife, Tan Le, whose companionship, care and support were an important source of comfort in his later years. Tom also valued the relationships he formed with Tan’s children, who welcomed him as part of their family.
Tom was a complex, proud, private and determined man whose life touched many people in different ways. He leaves behind family, friends, former colleagues and students, each of whom will remember him through their own unique experiences. Those who knew Tom well recall his resilience, perseverance, intelligence and fiercely independent spirit. They remember his thirst for adventure, his sporting prowess and the vitality with which he embraced life. They smile at memories of his quick wit, his colourful storytelling, his outrageous jokes and his remarkable ability to entertain and charm those around him. Above all, they remember a man who lived life on his own terms, faced adversity with determination, and remained unapologetically himself throughout his life.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Tom’s Celebration of Life, to be held at the Chapel of the Pinnaroo Crematorium, 285 Graham Road, Bridgeman Downs QLD 4035, on {Day}, {Date} at {Time}.TO BE ADVISED
We recognise that many of Tom’s family and friends live interstate and overseas and are unable to join us in person. Although distance prevents us from gathering together, you are warmly welcomed to attend remotely, as the service will be livestreamed.
