An unattended cremation, sometimes called a direct cremation, is a cremation (or a burial) in which no actual funeral service takes place.
As professional funeral directors, we have a number of responsibilities when engaged by a family. We are responsible for the legal documenting and authorising of the cremation and, although all instructions are different, we are responsible for the care of the person who has died.
Traditionally, the third component of responsibility is the funeral service itself however, this isn’t a legal requirement. A family can choose to have their funeral director care for their loved one physically and legally, then instruct them to just conduct the simple cremation without service or fanfare.
Please talk to our funeral directors should you wish to learn more about unattended, or direct, cremations. Ashley, Katrina and Robin are only a phone call away.
